Wacaco Exagram Pro Review: Rechargeable Weighing with Brewing Modes

Wacaco Exagram Pro – Smart Rechargeable Coffee Scale

More brewing assistance in a compact scale

The Wacaco Exagram Pro combines weighing and timing with dedicated Espresso and Pour-Over modes. Compared with the standard Exagram, its proposition is additional automation, ratio information and USB-C rechargeable power.

This overview is adapted from our existing equipment review, not a hands-on testing report. Specifications and manufacturer claims below reflect that source rather than independent measurements. Confirm the exact model and current specification before buying.

Why consider the Pro?

Measuring coffee and water makes a recipe easier to record. The Pro adds modes intended to reduce the manual taring, timer-starting and ratio calculations involved in espresso and pour-over brewing.

Those functions provide workflow assistance, not automatic coffee quality. Beans, grind, preparation and brewing decisions still matter.

Three operating modes

Normal mode handles straightforward weighing. Espresso mode adds functions intended to simplify monitoring extraction, while Pour-Over mode provides ratio assistance.

Learn the mode sequence before relying on automation during a brew. Detecting weight changes is not the same as controlling your coffee machine or deciding when your recipe is complete.

Espresso auto-tare and timing

The source review describes automatic taring and timing when brewing starts, allowing beverage weight and elapsed time to be monitored together.

This can reduce the need to start a separate timer while operating the machine. We have not tested how detection behaves with different cups or extraction flows.

Check physical clearance as well as modes. The listed 22mm height still needs to fit beneath your cup and spouts, with a stable position on the tray.

Pour-over ratio programme

The programme is described as memorising the ground-coffee weight and showing the evolving coffee-to-water ratio as water is added.

The source also records an automatic countdown and final information including ratio, water added and extraction time. Follow Wacaco's instructions for the sequence and interpret those readings in the context of your recipe.

Ratio assistance does not choose a grind setting or pouring technique. Its purpose is to make quantities and progress easier to monitor.

Display resolution versus accuracy

The 0.1g display interval below 1kg is useful for recording coffee doses and brewing quantities. From 1kg to the 2kg maximum, the interval changes to 1g.

Resolution is not an independently verified accuracy or response-speed guarantee. Include the weight of the brewing vessel and equipment when assessing the maximum load; taring does not remove their physical weight.

USB-C rechargeable power

The Pro uses a built-in rechargeable battery rather than the standard Exagram's replaceable AAA batteries. The source records Wacaco's claims of up to 15 hours of use and around two hours to recharge.

Those are manufacturer claims, not our battery-test results. Follow the charging instructions and keep the charging connection protected from liquid.

Dimensions and carrying box

The Pro's 90 × 95mm footprint is squarer and shorter front-to-back than the standard Exagram, but not narrower in every dimension. Measure your actual tray or worktop rather than assuming every dimension is smaller.

The source review describes the protective carrying box as usable to raise the scale by approximately 28mm. Use it only as directed and check that any raised arrangement remains stable and leaves enough cup clearance.

Silicone pad and cleaning

The removable pad provides a less slippery surface and helps insulate against heat and protect against scratches.

It does not establish that the scale is waterproof. Follow the manufacturer's cleaning and liquid-exposure guidance rather than rinsing the electronics or assuming the pad makes immersion safe.

Pro versus standard Exagram

The standard Wacaco Exagram provides weighing, tare and a timer with replaceable AAA power. Updated versions have their own automatic timer features, so check the precise version when comparing.

The Pro's distinguishing features include dedicated Espresso and Pour-Over modes, ratio calculations, a touch-sensitive LED interface and USB-C charging.

You do not need the Pro merely to display a dose in 0.1g intervals. Choose it if its modes and rechargeable workflow are features you will actually use, and compare current prices rather than assuming a fixed price gap.

The shorter timer limit

The source specification gives the Pro a maximum timer duration of 9 minutes 59 seconds, compared with 29 minutes 59 seconds for the standard Exagram.

That covers many espresso and pour-over recipes, but is a meaningful limitation if you need longer continuous timing. A Pro name does not mean every specification increases.

Who is it best for?

Consider it if you regularly brew espresso or pour-over, want automatic measurement-related steps, find live ratio information useful and prefer rechargeable power.

The carrying box may also appeal if you travel with your brewing equipment. Check platform stability, capacity and fit for the equipment you actually use.

Who should look elsewhere?

If a basic scale and timer already suit your routine, the additional modes may add little value. Buyers who need longer timing or a larger platform should compare those requirements first.

More automation is not automatically simpler for every person. Choose controls you are comfortable operating during a brew.

Do automated modes improve coffee?

Not by themselves. A scale cannot compensate for unsuitable coffee, poor preparation or a grind setting that does not suit the recipe.

The practical benefit is easier measurement and repetition. If those functions help you record successful brews and make controlled changes, they can support your learning without doing the brewing for you.

Our take

The Exagram Pro is a workflow upgrade rather than simply a different-looking standard Exagram. Dedicated modes, ratio assistance and rechargeable power are its main reasons to consider it.

Balance those against the shorter timer limit, exact physical fit and whether you need the extra functions. We have not tested its performance, so this is a feature-based assessment rather than a measured endorsement.
