Wacaco Exagram Review: A Compact Coffee Scale with Timer

Wacaco Exagram – Compact Coffee Scale with Timer

Weighing and timing in a compact format

The Wacaco Exagram is a compact digital coffee scale combining weighing, a brewing timer and tare. It is intended for measuring coffee and brewing water, and can also monitor espresso beverage weight where your machine has sufficient clearance.

This overview is adapted from our existing equipment review, not a hands-on testing report. Specifications below reflect that source, not independent measurements. Confirm the exact version before purchasing, especially if automatic timer functions matter to you. This article covers the Exagram, not the separate Exagram Pro.

Why consider a dedicated coffee scale?

Weighing lets you record coffee dose and water quantity rather than relying on scoops or judging a pour by eye. A timer alongside the weight display adds another useful recipe variable without requiring a separate phone timer.

The source review lists a footprint of 77 × 124mm. That makes compactness part of its appeal, but fit and stability still depend on the vessel and brewing setup.

Key specifications

  • Weighing range: 0.3g to 2kg.
  • Displayed intervals: 0.1g from 0.3g to 999.9g; 1g from 1kg to 2kg.
  • Timer: up to 29 minutes 59 seconds.
  • Weight, timer and tare functions, with g, oz and ml display modes.
  • Backlit LCD.
  • Source-listed automatic power-off after five minutes of inactivity.
  • Two AAA batteries, not included in the source package.
  • ABS, stainless steel and silicone construction.
  • Dimensions: 77 × 124 × 24mm; weight 171g.
  • Scale, removable silicone pad and instructions listed as included.

The original review also records auto-timer and auto-pause on updated versions. Check the exact version and operating instructions rather than assuming these functions are present on every Exagram.

0.1g intervals are not an accuracy guarantee

Within the normal coffee-brewing range below 1kg, the listed display changes in 0.1g steps. Above that threshold, the interval becomes 1g up to the 2kg maximum.

Display resolution is not the same as independently verified accuracy, response speed or repeatability. We have not measured those for this article.

When assessing capacity, include the cup, brewer or other equipment resting on the platform, not just the coffee or water you intend to add.

Built-in timer

The timer allows you to monitor brew duration and weight together, with a listed maximum of 29 minutes 59 seconds.

For versions offering automatic timing or auto-pause, learn how those modes start and stop before relying on them during a recipe. Confirm that the retailer is supplying the version whose features you want.

Pour-over use

Place a suitable vessel and brewer on the scale, tare, measure your coffee and then monitor brewing water as you pour. Weight-based recipes are easier to record than approximate cup markings.

The timer can help record bloom and overall brew duration. Check that your chosen vessel sits securely on the small platform and that the complete setup remains within capacity.

Espresso fit

The listed width of 77mm and height of 24mm make the Exagram worth considering for compact espresso setups, but compatibility is not universal.

Measure your drip tray and the clearance required for both scale and cup beneath the spouts. On a suitable setup, weighing dose and beverage output lets you work with a brew ratio rather than judging extraction only by appearance or volume.

Tare function

Tare resets the display after placing a container on the platform, so you can measure what you add without subtracting the vessel's weight yourself.

It is central to recipe-based brewing. Remember that zeroing the display does not remove the physical load of that vessel from the scale's capacity.

Removable silicone pad

The source package includes a silicone pad intended to provide insulation and a less slippery surface, while helping protect against scratches and minor spills.

Do not interpret the pad as proof that the scale is waterproof. Follow Wacaco's cleaning and liquid-exposure instructions and keep water away from the battery compartment.

AAA batteries rather than rechargeable power

The Exagram described here uses two AAA batteries instead of an internal rechargeable battery. The source review states that batteries are not included.

This avoids a charging routine but means keeping replacement batteries available. If USB charging is essential, compare a different model rather than assuming the standard Exagram offers it.

Who is it best for?

Consider it if you want a straightforward coffee scale and timer for pour-over, AeroPress or espresso, and a compact footprint matters.

Its purpose is to help you measure and record recipes. It can remain useful across brewing methods, provided the platform, clearance and capacity suit your equipment.

Who should look elsewhere?

Buyers wanting rechargeable power, advanced espresso automation, guided ratio modes or a larger platform should compare specifications carefully.

If you only weigh larger food quantities and do not need fine coffee-dose intervals or a timer, a conventional kitchen scale may cover the requirement.

Why grams rather than scoops?

Different beans, roast levels and grind sizes can occupy different volumes for the same weight. A scoop is therefore not a fixed coffee dose.

Recording grams gives you a more useful starting point for repeating a recipe or changing one variable deliberately. Measurement supports brewing decisions; it does not by itself guarantee a better-tasting cup.

Where it fits in a beginner setup

A brewer, adjustable grinder, scale and suitable kettle provide a practical foundation for learning. The Exagram covers measuring and timing without requiring a complicated connected setup.

For grinder options, see our Melitta Molino and Baratza Encore ESP overviews. Choose equipment to match your brewing method rather than assuming every accessory is essential.

Our take

The Exagram offers the fundamentals of a dedicated coffee scale in a compact format: fine displayed intervals through the usual brewing range, tare, a timer and a removable pad.

Check the version-dependent timer features, physical fit and battery preference before buying. We would judge it on those practical requirements rather than treating a 0.1g display as a tested performance verdict.
