Wacaco Exagram Pro – Smart Rechargeable Coffee Scale
Wacaco Exagram Pro Coffee Scale
The Wacaco Exagram Pro is a compact rechargeable coffee scale designed for both espresso and pour-over brewing. It combines precise weighing and timing with dedicated brewing modes that automate some of the repetitive steps involved in following a coffee recipe.
Compared with the standard Exagram, the Pro adds espresso and pour-over programmes, automatic detection, a coffee-to-water ratio function, USB-C rechargeable power and a smaller square footprint. It is therefore aimed at people who want more brewing assistance rather than simply a scale and timer.

Why Consider the Wacaco Exagram Pro?
Weighing coffee and water makes a brewing recipe measurable. The Exagram Pro builds on that basic principle by adding dedicated functions for the two brewing situations where simultaneous weight and time measurements are particularly useful: espresso and pour-over.
Instead of requiring every operation to be started manually, the scale can detect changes in weight and respond according to the selected brewing mode.
This makes it a logical step up from a conventional coffee scale for someone who regularly brews espresso, pour-over or both.

Three Brewing Modes
The Exagram Pro provides three operating modes rather than treating every brewing method in the same way.
Normal mode provides straightforward weighing for general coffee preparation. Espresso mode adds automatic functions intended to simplify monitoring an extraction, while Pour-Over mode incorporates Wacaco's ratio programme.
These modes do not make brewing decisions for you. Their value is in automating measurements and calculations that would otherwise need to be started, monitored or calculated manually.
Espresso Mode
Espresso mode is designed to monitor beverage weight and extraction time together.
The scale can automatically tare and begin timing when brewing starts. This allows you to concentrate on the extraction while the scale records the changing beverage weight and elapsed time.
For someone working with an espresso recipe expressed as a dose and beverage yield, this can make the workflow noticeably simpler than manually starting a timer while operating the espresso machine.
Clearance beneath the portafilter still matters. Although the Exagram Pro is only 22mm high, not every espresso machine and cup combination provides the same amount of space.
Pour-Over Ratio Programme
The dedicated pour-over programme is one of the main differences between the Exagram Pro and a conventional scale.
The scale can memorise the weight of the ground coffee and then display the evolving coffee-to-water ratio as brewing water is added.
This means a recipe can be followed as a ratio rather than requiring you to calculate the required water quantity separately.
The programme also incorporates an automatic countdown during the brewing process and displays information including the final ratio, total water added and extraction time.
You are not restricted to a single pour pattern, so the ratio function can still be useful when following different pour-over techniques.
0.1g Measurement
From 0.3g through to 999.9g, the Exagram Pro displays weight changes in 0.1g intervals.
This covers the range where finer measurement is particularly useful for coffee. Espresso doses may involve relatively small changes in coffee weight, while pour-over recipes benefit from being able to reproduce both coffee and water quantities consistently.
From 1kg to the scale's 2kg maximum capacity, the measurement interval changes to 1g.
Rechargeable USB-C Battery
Unlike the standard Exagram, which uses replaceable AAA batteries, the Exagram Pro contains a rechargeable lithium-ion battery.
Wacaco specifies up to 15 hours of use from its 700mAh battery, with a recharge taking approximately two hours. Charging is through USB-C.
A physical power switch and automatic standby function help reduce unnecessary battery use when the scale is not being used.
Compact Espresso-Friendly Design
The Exagram Pro measures just 90 × 95 × 22mm and weighs 155g.
Its square footprint is particularly useful where worktop or espresso drip-tray space is restricted.
Wacaco also supplies a protective carrying box. In addition to protecting the scale during transport, the box can be used to raise the scale by approximately 28mm when a particular espresso setup benefits from positioning the cup closer to the portafilter.
Silicone Protective Pad
A removable silicone pad sits over the weighing surface. It provides a less slippery surface for cups and brewing equipment while helping insulate the scale from heat and protect it from scratches.
The pad can be removed for cleaning.
Exagram Pro vs Standard Exagram
Both Wacaco scales cover the same basic 0.3g to 2kg weighing range and provide 0.1g intervals below 1kg, but their intended workflows are different.
The standard Exagram is the simpler option. It combines accurate weighing, tare and a brewing timer with conventional controls and replaceable AAA batteries.
The Exagram Pro adds dedicated Espresso and Pour-Over modes, automatic detection, ratio calculations, a touch-sensitive LED interface and rechargeable power.
The Pro is therefore not necessary simply to weigh coffee accurately. Its additional value comes from the automated brewing functions and rechargeable, more compact design.
An Interesting Difference: Timer Duration
One specification does not increase with the Pro model.
The Exagram Pro's timer runs for a maximum of 9 minutes 59 seconds, whereas the standard Exagram can time for considerably longer.
Ten minutes is ample for normal espresso and most pour-over recipes, but someone specifically requiring longer timed brewing sessions should take this difference into account.
Who Is the Wacaco Exagram Pro For?
The Exagram Pro is particularly worth considering if you:
- regularly make espresso and want automatic timing and tare functions;
- brew V60 or other pour-over coffee using measured ratios;
- want the scale to calculate coffee-to-water ratio while pouring;
- want a compact scale capable of fitting beneath many espresso machines;
- prefer USB-C rechargeable power to replaceable batteries;
- want espresso and pour-over functions in the same scale;
- travel with your coffee equipment; or
- want more automation than a conventional scale and timer provides.
Who Should Look Elsewhere?
Someone who simply wants to weigh coffee and water accurately does not necessarily need the Pro model. The standard Exagram already provides 0.1g measurement, tare and a brewing timer at a lower cost.
Similarly, someone who does not make espresso or pour-over coffee may gain little from the dedicated brewing modes.
The Pro's 9-minute 59-second timer is also shorter than the timer provided by the standard Exagram, which may matter for unusually long brewing processes.
Do the Automated Modes Improve the Coffee?
Not by themselves.
A scale cannot compensate for unsuitable coffee, an inappropriate grind setting or poor brewing technique. What it can do is make the process easier to measure and reproduce.
The value of the Exagram Pro's automated modes is therefore practical rather than magical: they reduce some of the manual timing, taring and ratio calculations involved in following a recipe.
Where It Fits in a Home Coffee Setup
The Exagram Pro makes most sense once measuring coffee has already become part of the brewing routine.
For a beginner, a straightforward scale and timer may provide all the information required. As brewing becomes more methodical, automatic espresso timing or live pour-over ratio information can make the workflow quicker and easier to follow.
It is therefore a genuine step up from a basic coffee scale without moving into significantly more expensive specialist equipment.
Conclusion
The Wacaco Exagram Pro combines accurate coffee weighing with genuinely useful brewing-specific functions.
Its 0.1g measurement intervals through the normal coffee range, compact 90 × 95mm footprint, rechargeable battery and dedicated espresso and pour-over modes make it substantially more than a cosmetic upgrade over the standard Exagram.
The standard model remains sufficient if all you need is accurate weighing and a timer. The Pro becomes more compelling when automatic espresso timing, pour-over ratio calculations and USB-C rechargeable power are features you will actually use.
