Philips 3300 Series LatteGo EP3347/90 – Bean-to-Cup Coffee Machine

Philips 3300 Series LatteGo EP3347/90 – Bean-to-Cup Coffee Machine

The Philips 3300 Series LatteGo EP3347/90 is a fully automatic bean-to-cup coffee machine that combines an integrated ceramic grinder with automatic coffee brewing and Philips' LatteGo milk system.

It offers five programmed coffee recipes plus hot water, giving you six hot and refreshing options without the much larger drink menus found further up the Philips range.

That positions the 3300 neatly between simpler bean-to-cup machines with manual milk frothing and more feature-heavy automatic machines such as the Philips 5400 and 5500.

Why Consider the Philips 3300 LatteGo?

The Philips 3300 is particularly interesting if you want automatic milk drinks without paying for an extensive speciality-drink menu.

Whole coffee beans go into the 275g hopper and the machine handles grinding and brewing internally. When you select Cappuccino or Latte Macchiato, the LatteGo system also handles milk frothing and dispensing.

That makes it considerably more automated than machines such as the Philips 2200 EP2220/10 or De'Longhi Magnifica S, both of which leave milk preparation to you.

At the same time, its relatively compact drinks menu keeps the interface and overall proposition simpler than Philips' higher-tier automatic machines.

What Drinks Can the Philips 3300 Make?

The EP3347/90 provides the following selections:

  • Espresso
  • Coffee
  • Cappuccino
  • Latte Macchiato
  • Iced Coffee
  • Hot Water

Philips describes this as six hot and refreshing options, although it's useful to understand that five are programmed coffee recipes and the sixth is hot water.

For many households, that covers the drinks most likely to be used regularly without filling the interface with a much larger number of variations.

Automatic LatteGo Milk System

The LatteGo system is one of the biggest reasons to choose the 3300 over a simpler bean-to-cup machine.

For Cappuccino and Latte Macchiato, the machine can automatically prepare and dispense the milk component rather than requiring you to use a steam wand manually.

LatteGo uses a two-part milk container without conventional internal milk tubes.

Philips states that the two components can be cleaned in around 10 seconds under running water, and they can also be cleaned in a dishwasher.

That claim applies specifically to the LatteGo components. The complete coffee machine still requires normal routine cleaning and maintenance.

What About Plant-Based Milk?

Philips states that LatteGo can be used with suitable plant-based milk alternatives as well as dairy milk.

The resulting texture can vary between products because milk alternatives have different protein, fat and stabiliser formulations.

If you regularly use oat, almond, soya or another alternative, expect some variation rather than assuming every product will produce identical froth.

Integrated Ceramic Grinder

The 3300 contains an integrated ceramic coffee grinder, so you don't need a separate grinder for normal bean-to-cup use.

The hopper holds approximately 275g of coffee beans and the required dose is ground automatically when you select a drink.

Philips provides 12 grinder settings, allowing the grind to be moved from finer to coarser settings.

These are adjustments for dialling in the machine's own brewing system. They shouldn't be interpreted as turning the 3300 into a general-purpose grinder for unrelated brewing methods such as cafetière or pour-over.

Adjusting the Grinder

Grinder adjustments on a bean-to-cup machine should be approached gradually.

Philips instructs users to adjust its grinder while the machine is actually grinding and to change it incrementally rather than making large adjustments at once.

It can also take several coffees before the full effect of a new setting becomes apparent.

Once you've found a setting that works well with your beans, there is generally little reason to continually alter it.

My Coffee Choice

The My Coffee Choice controls allow the available recipes to be adjusted rather than forcing you to use only the factory defaults.

Depending on the selected drink, you can adjust parameters including coffee strength, drink length and milk-froth quantity.

This provides useful everyday personalisation without requiring the manual dose, yield and extraction management associated with a traditional espresso machine.

Iced Coffee

Iced Coffee is included as one of the 3300's programmed coffee recipes.

It's important not to confuse this with traditional cold brew.

Cold brew normally involves steeping ground coffee in cool water for many hours.

The Philips instead uses a brewing recipe designed to produce coffee that can be served over ice.

If iced coffee is one of your regular drinks, having a dedicated recipe can be convenient. If you're specifically looking for traditional cold brew, this isn't the same preparation method.

SilentBrew Technology

The 3300 incorporates Philips' SilentBrew technology.

Philips states that the system uses sound shielding and quieter grinding to make the machine 40% less noisy than earlier models. The 3300 also carries Quiet Mark certification.

That doesn't mean the machine is silent. Grinding whole coffee beans and operating the internal brewing mechanism inevitably generates some sound.

The useful point is that noise reduction was a specific design consideration for this generation.

Using Pre-Ground Coffee

The 3300 also provides a route for pre-ground coffee.

This can be particularly useful if the bean hopper normally contains caffeinated beans but someone occasionally wants a decaffeinated drink.

You can use suitable pre-ground coffee for that individual preparation without emptying and refilling the main bean hopper.

Water Tank and Bean Capacity

The Philips 3300 combines a 1.8-litre water tank with a 275g bean hopper.

Those capacities are suitable for a machine designed to prepare multiple drinks throughout the day, although actual refill frequency depends on drink size, rinsing cycles, milk-drink use and the number of people using the machine.

For that reason, it's more useful to consider the physical capacities than translate them into a fixed number of coffees.

AquaClean Water Filtration

The Philips 3300 is compatible with the company's AquaClean water-filter system.

Philips states that, when the filters are installed and replaced as instructed, the machine can prepare up to 5,000 cups before descaling becomes necessary.

That doesn't mean the machine requires no maintenance during that period.

AquaClean deals primarily with water filtration and limescale. The LatteGo system, brew group, drip tray, coffee grounds container and other components still require their normal cleaning.

Removable Brew Group

The internal brew group can be removed from the machine for cleaning and maintenance.

Philips recommends regularly rinsing and lubricating the brew group according to its maintenance schedule.

Importantly, Philips specifies that the brew group itself is not dishwasher-safe.

Philips currently supplies replacement brew groups and other parts for the EP3347/90, which is useful for longer-term ownership.

Cleaning and Maintenance

The convenience of automatic brewing doesn't remove the need for regular maintenance.

The LatteGo components should be cleaned after milk use, while the brew group, drip tray, coffee grounds container and water tank require routine attention.

The machine will also need descaling when indicated unless the AquaClean filtration programme has delayed that requirement according to Philips' instructions.

Philips currently provides dedicated UK manuals, cleaning guidance and replacement components for the EP3347/90.

Philips 3300 vs Philips 2200

The Philips 2200 EP2220/10 is the simpler proposition.

Both machines automatically grind and brew coffee, but the 2200 uses a manual Classic Milk Frother.

The 3300 adds automatic LatteGo milk preparation and a broader programmed drinks menu that includes Cappuccino, Latte Macchiato and Iced Coffee.

If you mainly drink Espresso or Coffee and don't mind preparing milk yourself, the 2200 may be sufficient.

If automatic milk drinks matter to you, the 3300 represents a significant step up in convenience.

Philips 3300 vs Philips 5400

The Philips 5400 LatteGo follows the same basic concept but provides considerably more drink choice and personalisation.

The 3300 offers five programmed coffee recipes plus hot water.

The 5400 expands that to 12 coffee drinks and adds multiple user profiles.

If several people use the machine and regularly want different saved drinks, the 5400's additional functionality can be useful.

If your regular choices are already covered by Espresso, Coffee, Cappuccino, Latte Macchiato and Iced Coffee, the 3300 may provide the functionality you actually need without moving further up the range.

Philips 3300 vs Philips 5500

The Philips 5500 LatteGo pushes the same automatic concept substantially further with 20 hot and iced coffee recipes and additional newer-generation convenience features.

The 3300 is therefore the more focused machine.

If you genuinely want a large menu of speciality and iced drinks, the 5500 provides much greater variety.

If you regularly make only the core drinks offered by the 3300, paying for 20 recipes may provide little practical benefit.

Philips 3300 vs De'Longhi Magnifica S

The De'Longhi Magnifica S also provides integrated grinding and automatic coffee brewing, but milk preparation remains manual.

That makes the comparison largely about how much automation you want.

The Magnifica S keeps the process relatively simple and allows you to froth your own milk.

The Philips 3300 handles milk automatically through LatteGo and provides dedicated Cappuccino and Latte Macchiato recipes.

If milk-based drinks form a regular part of your routine, that difference can be significant.

Who Is the Philips 3300 Best For?

The Philips 3300 is particularly worth considering if you:

  • want whole-bean coffee without manually preparing a portafilter;
  • want automatic Cappuccino and Latte Macchiato preparation;
  • prefer an automatic milk system to using a steam wand;
  • regularly drink a relatively small selection of popular coffees;
  • want an integrated ceramic grinder;
  • like iced coffee but don't need a large menu of iced recipes;
  • want straightforward drink customisation; or
  • don't need the larger menus and profiles offered further up the Philips range.

Who Should Look Elsewhere?

If you mainly drink black coffee and are happy to froth milk manually, the Philips 2200 or another simpler bean-to-cup machine may provide better value for your needs.

If you want a much broader range of programmed drinks or multiple user profiles, look further up the Philips range.

If you want to manually control dose, distribution, tamping, extraction and milk texture, a portafilter espresso machine is a better platform.

And if traditional cold brew is important to you, remember that the 3300's Iced Coffee programme isn't the same as a long cold-water steep.

Our Take

The Philips 3300 LatteGo occupies a useful position in the Philips bean-to-cup range.

It gives you the features that make a meaningful difference to convenience — integrated grinding, automatic brewing and automatic milk preparation — without requiring you to move immediately to a machine with 12 or 20 programmed coffee recipes.

Its five coffee recipes cover many everyday choices, while Iced Coffee adds a useful alternative and hot water provides an additional non-coffee function.

The main question is therefore not whether the 3300 has as many features as the machines above it. It doesn't.

It's whether you would actually use those additional features.

If Espresso, Coffee, Cappuccino, Latte Macchiato and Iced Coffee cover most of your routine, the 3300 provides a focused automatic setup without much of the additional complexity of Philips' higher-tier machines.
